The Country Dance-A-Thon

The Country Dance-a-Thon is a two-stepping and line dancing marathon taking place Saturday, August 18 at Jane Warner Plaza in the heart of San Francisco's Castro district. Participants will dance for three hours to support two nonprofit organizations:

PRC is the agency formed by the merger of Positive Resource Center, AIDS Emergency Fund, and Baker Places. PRC works to address the wellness needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, mental health and substance use issues.

The AIDS Emergency Fund provides emergency financial aid to those with AIDS or disabling HIV who have been economically devastated by these diseases. Serving the greater Bay Area since 1982, the AIDS Emergency Fund provides direct assistance towards the cost of basic living needs such as food, shelter, utilities and medication.

Positive Resource Center offers comprehensive benefits counseling (benefits advocacy and direct legal representation) and employment services (providing vocational rehabilitation and job search services) to people with HIV/AIDS or mental health disabilities.

Baker Places provides a comprehensive array of residential treatment services to people with mental health, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS-related issues, including crisis and transitional residential programs as well as permanent housing programs.

The Sundance Association provides country-western dance instruction and events and raises thousands of dollars annually for other charity organizations. Part of the funds will be earmarked for the performance group, the Sundance Bandits.

All donations are 100% tax-deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.

About Us

The Country Dance-a-Thon began in 2007 as a joint project of the Sundance Association and the Bare Chest Calendar. Now in its eleventh year, the Country Dance-a-Thon has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the beneficiaries of the Bare Chest Calendar: AIDS Emergency Fund and Positive Resource Center which have now merged into a single organization, PRC.

The Country Dance-a-Thon is a grass-roots all-volunteer project with low overhead expenses. We anticipate our administrative expenses to remain well under 10% again this year, allowing for unavoidable credit card and web hosting fees. This means that over 90% of money raised through this event goes directly to the designated nonprofit organizations which are each in turn known for their low administrative expenses.

The Sundance Association is an all-volunteer community-based nonprofit organization providing country-western dance instruction and events in San Francisco for the LGBT community since 1998. Over the past 20 years the Sundance Association has raised over $400,000 for other nonprofit organizations.

The Bare Chest Calendar has been raising funds since 1985, supporting the AIDS Emergency Fund and the Positive Resource Center (now merged as the PRC). The men of the Bare Chest Calendar work hard during their reign, and many go on to leadership positions in the community.
